Ryoji YAMAGUCHI (Tokyo, Japan)

Classically trained guitarist Ryoji Yamaguchi is active as a versatile performer, arranger, and composer in various styles of music. Ryoji holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Rene Gonzalez. In 2004, Ryoji won the second prize at the Miami International Guitar Competition. He has collaborated with traditional Japanese instrumentalists, Noh actors, as well as Jazz, Sephardic, Middle Eastern, Tango, and Celtic musicians. Born in Israel in 1981, he has lived in countries such as Greece, Mexico, Japan, El Salvador, and the United States. He has performed in festivals around the globe such as Festival Lent, Hatsume Festival, Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, as well as other performances in the U.S.A, Jamaica, Slovenia, Holland, France, and throughout Japan.

Some of the artists he has performed with are -KIJI-, coba, Earl “Chinna” Smith, Kiddus I, and

Reijiro Tsumura, to name a few. Classical guitar magazine GUITAR DREAM has featured Ryoji for several occasions. Currently based in Tokyo, Ryoji continues to perform internationally.
